Entrepreneurship Preparatory School receives an “Effective” rating from the Ohio Department of Education

In only its fourth year of operation, E Prep School is effectively closing the achievement gap for its students. For the second consecutive year, E Prep received an “Effective” rating by the Ohio Department of Education. Out of 143 public schools in Cleveland, only 15 were rated “Effective” or “Excellent,” and of those 15, six schools were charter schools.

Although many students enter E Prep at least 2-3 grade levels behind their suburban counterparts, our students are becoming proficient thanks to their persistence and the dedicated work of our faculty and staff. Based on 2008-09 Ohio Achievement Test scores, E Prep’s 8th graders were the top readers in Cuyahoga County, outperforming Beachwood, Chagrin Falls, and Solon Middle Schools for the top spot. Additionally, E Prep’s African American students had the 3rd highest average OAT proficiency rate in the state of Ohio.

The chart below compares E Prep’s stunning Ohio Achievement Test scores to the 2008/09 State Average for African American students and the State Average for all public school students, with percentages referring to the percent of students performing at proficient levels or above. E Prep outperformed both groups across the board!

Behind these test scores are the passion, resilient work ethic, and many hours of instructional intervention and rigorous instruction put forth by every member of the Entrepreneurship Preparatory School staff and family. We are elated in many fashions – ultimately, we are accomplishing the one thing most schools struggle to complete: closing the academic achievement gap. We do recognize, however, there is still much work to be done.
